Hill Women's Cooperative Knitwear

Our fair trade knitwear collection celebrates the work of the Hill Women's Cooperative in the Himalayan region of Northern India. Each piece is knitted using traditional techniques passed down through generations, and every garment directly supports more than 700 women artisans and their families through stable, dignified employment.

We celebrate and champion talented craftswomen, providing them with sustainable livelihoods. The wages from these partnerships empower craftswomen personally and as mothers, creating opportunities to invest in their children's education, health and wellbeing. We release small, seasonless collections when they are ready, without production deadlines, so our artisans can enjoy work and life on their own terms.

Fair Trade, Hand Knitted Jumpers and Cardigans

Every jumper, cardigan and vest in this collection is made under fair trade principles, meaning the artisans behind it are paid fairly and reliably, without intermediaries taking a cut of what they earn. The Fisherwoman's Jumper, our long-standing staple, has recently been refined through customer feedback to be softer, more durable and more versatile than before. 

Medium-weight and endlessly wearable, its roll-neck and flattering mid-hip silhouette pair effortlessly with skirts, dresses or casual jeans, and it is knitted to last, soft, non-pilling cotton that gets reached for on coastal walks, city mornings and quiet evenings alike.

Indian Knitwear, Made in the Himalayas

This is proper Indian knitwear, made specifically in the Himalayan region of Northern India rather than assembled from imported components. 

Each indian jumper and indian sweater in the collection reflects the knitting traditions of the Hill Women's Cooperative, built up over generations of mountain living, where knitting has long been both a practical skill and a source of income for women in the region.

Artisan Made, Not Mass Produced

This is genuinely handwoven knitwear and hand-knitted clothing, not a mass-produced approximation of the look.

Because each hand-knit pullover sweater and handmade sweater vest is shaped by an individual maker rather than an automated process, no two pieces knit up in exactly the same way; small variations in tension and texture are part of the character of the piece, not a defect.

Natural Fibre, Sustainably Made

Our knitwear is made primarily from soft, non-pilling cotton, with an alpaca range for extra warmth and drape. Both are natural fibres, chosen over synthetic yarns that pill and shed microplastics.

Producing in small batches through the Cooperative, rather than mass-manufacturing sustainable jumpers at scale, keeps overproduction and waste low while ensuring the artisans behind each piece are paid fairly for their time.

Caring for Your Knitwear

Our knitwear is made to be cared for gently, using fewer chemicals and less energy, in keeping with the natural fibres and handwork behind each piece.

• Wash separately: keeps colour and texture from transferring to or from other garments.
• Delicate machine cycle or hand wash: at no more than 30 degrees.
• Use a non-enzyme, non-biological detergent: gentler on natural fibres than standard washing powder or liquid.
• Do not tumble dry: air dry flat to protect shape and fibre.

US orders ship with all tariffs and duties pre-paid by us, via Express International Tracked and Signed delivery.
